tl;dr
I do not collect or store your audio or any transcripts. All audio is processed directly on your device, unless you explicitly opt-in to features that send audio to Apple's servers. I collect anonymized usage data to help improve the app, and I will always ask for your permission before anything is sent off-device in the future.
I use Sentry for crash reporting and error analysis to help me fix bugs and improve stability. This may include:
I use Telemetry Deck to help me understand how people are using Transcrybe and to fix bugs. This includes things like:
This data is anonymized and never linked to your personal identity. It does not include any audio, transcription, or translation data.
All audio transcription and translation is handled on your device, not in the cloud.
*Exception: If you explicitly opt in to the Apple speech recognition feature described below, your audio may be securely transmitted to Apple's servers for processing for supported languages. See Apple's privacy documentation linked below.
Transcrybe includes an optional feature you can enable that routes speech recognition to Apple's servers for improved recognition quality in certain languages. This feature is off by default and applies to:
When enabled, your audio is sent to Apple solely to perform the requested speech recognition. Transcrybe does not keep or store this audio.
For details on how Apple handles speech data, please see Apple's official documentation: Siri, Dictation & Privacy.
Transcrybe requests Screen Recording permission from macOS, but this is only used to capture audio from the apps you select. I do not access, record, or process any video content from your screen. This permission is simply the mechanism macOS provides to allow apps to capture audio from other applications.
If I ever add a feature that would require sending transcripts or audio off your device (for example, cloud syncing or a web interface), I'll make it very clear, and I'll ask for your permission before anything is sent.
