Which Transcrybe version should I use?

Use the Mac App Store version if you bought Transcrybe from the App Store or want purchases managed by your Apple Account. Use the direct-download version if you bought a Transcrybe license key outside the App Store.

I already have a direct license key. Can I use it in the App Store app?

No. The Mac App Store version uses App Store purchases and Restore Purchase. Direct license keys are activated only in the direct-download version. If you already have a direct license key, download the direct version from transcrybe.app/download, then enter your key there.

How do I restore an App Store purchase?

Open Transcrybe while signed in to the same Apple Account you used for the purchase, then choose Restore Purchase on the paywall or in Settings. If the purchase still does not appear, confirm the purchase in the App Store app and contact support with the email address you use for App Store receipts.

Setup and Permissions

Why does Transcrybe ask for Screen Recording permission?

macOS uses Screen Recording permission to let apps capture audio from other apps. Transcrybe uses that permission for audio capture only and does not record or process video from your screen.

The app cannot hear a call, video, or other app. What should I check?

Make sure the app you want to hear is running, then reopen Transcrybe's Audio Source menu and select that app or All Applications. If macOS recently changed permissions, quit and reopen Transcrybe after granting Screen Recording access.

Privacy

Where are audio and transcripts processed?

Transcrybe processes audio, transcription, and translation on your Mac. Audio and transcripts are not uploaded to Transcrybe servers.

Does Transcrybe ever send audio off my Mac?

No. Transcrybe's transcription and translation pipeline runs on your device and does not send audio to Transcrybe servers or third-party speech services.
